4th _____ AA defense sound[ed] a few times during the night _ GQ [went] ... by this morning but no planes showe[d u]p. The island had 21 air alerts ... proved to be friendly. We are now just a few thousand yards from beach, by smoak Mer____ are making pretty good headway. The planes bombed the Japs all day _ this operation is soupose to last 105 days.(34 days out of states.)(4th day of Okinawa landing)
