Joe made no entry today.Photo is of the bosun's whistle being played over the ship's P.A. system. The use of the whistle on naval vessels dates back at least as far as the Crusades in the 1200s. The high pitch could send signals over the sounds of the ocean and battle. Commonly used to signal an announcement about to be made, but also used during ceremonies.
